Career Details

Gerry has been working with Merit Solutions since 2015 and more broadly as an organisational consultant since 2013, with a contract in 2016-2017 supporting the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Queensland through a major restructure. She is also a Sessional Lecturer at James Cook University teaching in subjects such as “Change Management” and “Management & Leadership”. Her most recent role in government was Mental Health Workforce Officer, a position created in Queensland Health to attract, recruit and retain a highly skilled mental health workforce. In this role from 2008 to 2013, she led the development of a workforce plan, designed and coordinated interventions which resulted in significant improvement in staff satisfaction, customised orientation resources and supported managers and job applicants through the recruitment, selection, relocation and onboarding processes.

Recruitment and Selection

Gerry has extensive experience in managing recruitment and selection processes, as a line manager and senior HR professional in government and with Merit Solutions as an advisor and support to selection panels. She is skilled in applicant assessment, in the preparation of credible reports and in coaching panels to achieve good recruitment outcomes. She is experienced in the management of staffing changes arising through organisational change. Gerry has an excellent understanding of ethical, merit based recruitment and selection.

Learning and Development

Gerry’s experience includes five years as Manager, Training and Development for the Cairns Health Service District. She also worked as Change Coordinator for the Cairns Regional Council for two years following amalgamation of two smaller Councils. Over a twenty-five year career, Gerry has also worked as a Teacher in the Business Administration program with the Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE and in Service Development with the London Borough of Lewisham where she implemented a marketing/customer care program, including awareness training and briefing staff on legislative change. Gerry is known as an engaging presenter and facilitator and is an Accredited Belbin Team Roles facilitator.

Other Achievements

Gerry has a long history as a volunteer and contributor to her profession. She is currently a Queensland State Councillor for the Australian Human Resources Institute and Vice President Certification. She has been an active member and former convenor of the Cairns AHRI networks since 2008. She has experience as a board member having previously served as a member of the Far North Qld Human Research Ethics committee, member of the Management Committee for the Worklink Employment Support Group (non-profit organisation) and the Diocese of Cairns Board of Governance for Catholic Education.
