Competing in the current volatile job market is a challenge facing all organisations. Skill shortages remain in some areas, while in others interest in public sector roles in increasing significantly.
A key factor in getting the right candidate is the recruitment process itself. International research has proven that candidates with a strong skills base and experience are employed quickly. These candidates usually attend interviews with several different employers, so if one agency's recruitment process is protracted, they risk losing that candidate to competitors whose approach is much faster and more succinct. This leads to employer disappointment and time wasted.
You can improve the timeliness and outcomes of your recruitment process by engaging Merit Solutions to achieve a more effective recruitment and selection process. At the same time, you will free up your valuable time and that of your staff, allowing you to concentrate on core business while we provide dedicated support and resources for your selection process.
We specialise in:
-
Selection Services: offering valuable procedural and policy advice, whether engaged as a member of the selection panel, as a scribe, or in providing other selection support; coordination of large selection processes; shortlisting; preparation of interview questions; development of work sample tests; reference checking; psychometric assessment; preparation of selection report and comparative reports; feedback to applicants; and development of performance and learning plans.
Recruitment Services: developing recruitment strategies; advertising through the press, on-line or specialist publications; search; candidate care; screening applicants; and supporting recruitment and selection processes as outlined above.
Shortlisting Services: currently larger applicant pools are resulting in requests for specialised shortlisting services. Depending on the size of the applicant pool, mix of applicants and number of vacancies, we can suggest the most effective and efficient method to shortlist large fields of applicants. Our consultant's role is to assist the chair of the selection panel by streamlining this stage of the selection process. Our usual approach for a large field of applicants is to undertake an initial review which quickly identifies clearly unsuitable applicants. We then prepare a preliminary shortlist matrix providing comments and an order of merit for the stronger candidates. Shortlisting utilising other assessment tools such as brief structured telephone questioning, work or ability tests or screening questionnaires can also be negotiated as required.
Public Sector selections take you away from your job, can be lengthy and appear bound by procedural difficulties. For inexperienced staff or busy senior managers, Merit Solutions provides an answer to both the specialist skills and procedural requirements.
Merit Solutions consultants stand apart in their ability to provide valuable procedural advice, whether engaged to advertise your vacancy, as a member of the selection panel, or as a scribe providing selection support. Our selection services are well established and frequently used by agencies across all levels of government who are looking for:
