Career Details:
Cheryl has held senior professional, research, managerial and human resource positions in the
community, university, state and federal government sectors.
As a Regional Human Resource Manager for the Department of Health and Community Services,
and as a National HR Manager for the Australian National Training Authority she has worked
closely with senior executive teams and applied her strategic and generalist knowledge to
strategic and workforce planning, negotiating employee agreements, organisational
development strategies to support change, and developing policies across the full range of
human resource functions.
Selection Skills:
While working for the Australian Public Service Commission, Cheryl gained considerable
experience promoting better practice initiatives related to recruitment and selection, developing
the capabilities of human resource practitioners, leadership development, and indigenous
employment. She has coached numerous selection committees, chaired large numbers of
promotion appeal committees, and reviewed complex employment related decisions (including
breaches of the code of conduct), utilising a strong understanding of administrative law
provisions.
Other Achievements:
Through her earlier career as a Speech Therapist and Audiologist, Cheryl has worked with many
clients with different disabilities, and has visited most Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
communities in Queensland. She uses experience from this work when conducting workshops
and developing strategies that improve employment outcomes for indigenous Australians and
employees with a disability.
Cheryl has provided workplace consultancy services for the community and public sector, and has
conducted many learning and development workshops covering topics such as streamlining merit
selections, values and code of conduct, discrimination and harassment, contemporary
employment trends, and exploring leadership capabilities.
She has been a member of the Queensland Regional Heads Conference committee and has
successfully initiated across-Agency executive and HR networks.
Cheryl has a strong interest in the importance of contemporary leadership to improve the quality
of workplaces for employees and business outcomes for employers.
