Career Details:

Marilyn recently joined Merit Solutions after a 22 year career with the Commonwealth Government 
in Canberra, Brisbane, Sydney and Townsville.  During this time she worked primarily in Human 
Resource Management and specialised in recruitment and selection in the Department of 
Employment Education and Training.  Other roles include Manager, Equal Employment 
Opportunity and Occupational Health and Safety and Rehabilitation Case Manager in DEET 
Brisbane and Canberra.  Marilyn also has experience as a Program Delivery Manager in North 
Queensland and in policy development and user requirement specification for IT systems.

Selection Skills:

Marilyn has extensive experience providing advice to panels with shortlisting; interview 
preparation; report writing and post selection feedback.  She was also a selection delegate for 
many years and has extensive experience as selection panel chair and member.  Marilyn 
travelled extensively throughout Queensland delivering selection and referee training to 
departmental staff.  

In addition, Marilyn managed and participated in large selection exercises such as those 
following organisation restructuring and to recruit Indigenous Remote Field Officer Positions.  She 
has also provided support to a number of Joint Selection Committees and has a strong 
background in interpreting legislation and guidelines as they apply to HRM functions.

Other Achievements:

Most recently Marilyn worked in Centrelink’s National Office in Canberra where she had national 
responsibility for a number of electronic transfer products in partnership with the state 
Departments of Housing.  She worked closely with each state’s housing agency and Centrelink’s 
IT Group, in the development and maintenance of these products.
